The South-East Asian delegation to the Global March on Jerusalem set out on its journey earlier this week, with a planned schedule as follows, according to the Indian Muslim website ‘Two Circles’:
6th March: The Caravan will set off from Indonesia
7th March: It will reach New Delhi
8th March: Members will celebrate Holi, a festival of India
9th March: Besides meeting with different political party leaders, a visit to Rajghat is also scheduled at 9.00 am. The caravan will travel to Golden Temple and Jalianwala Bag to pay the homage to Freedom fighters. It will depart for Lahore.
9th -14th March: It will visit Karachi, Multan and Koweta of Pakistan till 14th March.
15th March: It will take a trip of Zaidan, Isfahan, Qom, Tehran, cities of Iran.
21st March: From Tabrez, border area of Iran and Turkey, it will enter Turkey on 21st March and visit Ankara. Then the caravan will take a Passenger Ship to Beirut and it will try and reach to the border of old Palestine of 1948.
Upon its arrival on March 9th at the Gandhi memorial at Raj Ghat, the delegation was apparently greeted by Indian politicians Mani Shankar Aiyer and Ram Vilas Paswan (leader of the Lok Janshakti party) who arrived to show their support for the Global March to Jerusalem. The delegation is later scheduled to visit Jalianwala Bagh in Amritsar before continuing to Pakistan.
Kunal Majumder – an Indian journalist travelling with the delegation – reported on Twitter (@kunalmajumder) on March 8th that Pakistan has already refused entry visas to a significant proportion of the delegates.
In the past, the Pakistani government also initially refused visas to some members of the ‘Asia to Gaza Convoy’ but later granted them access.
As was the case with the ‘Asia to Gaza Convoy’ in which several of the Indian GMJ organisers also participated, this delegation is scheduled to visit Iran en route. The Iranian regime’s news agency FARS is heavily promoting the visit and the march in general:
“The occupation of Palestine by the Zionist Israel is the central geopolitical issue of our times and at the heart lies the issue of Jerusalem!
“We thus invite you to be a part of the program, which is our tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and the martyrs of our freedom struggle who laid down their lives for the freedom of India and the world,” those in charge of the Indian delegation said.
“We thus invite you all to partake in this program, which will include an all-religious prayer, speeches and revolutionary songs,” they added. ”
Significantly, the main Indian GMJ co-ordinator Feroze Mithiborwala is entirely open about the fact that his delegation’s aim is to manufacture a high-profile publicity event:
“Feroz admitted, “We know we can’t reach The Jerusalem but will try to reach near to it.” Feroz sought support of Ulema by informing the people in Khutba-e-Juma especially on 23rd and 30th March. He also asked for dharna in front of Israeli Embassy in Mumbai and other cities of India.”
